In the 80's, when tattoo magazines could only be purchased in the "adult" sections of select bookstores, Pat's very reluctant mother had to buy the magazines for her 14 year old son. Twenty five years later, she manages a tattoo shop for him! Pat started designing flash in 1989 for Al Shaw at the Chop Shop tattoo parlour, taking the bus after school to sell the very sketches that had him failing science class. He first began apprenticing in 1993 under Reg Morrell at Arcane Art, which would eventually evolve into Eye of the Needle tattoo. He left apprenticeship for a couple years, and returned again in 1996 at Eye of the Needle on Broadway and consistently has been involved in the trade ever since.
In late 1999, Pat established Rites of Passage Tattoo with partner Jeremy Friesen in the basement of the historic KG Hotel in downtown Saskatoon. The hotel had seen better days, and patrons, so in 2001, ROP Tattoo moved to 2nd avenue with Jeremy and new partner Chris Wenzel. Chris now operates Electric Underground Tattoo in Saskatoon. Jeremy now works in Victoria, British Columbia.
In 2003, Pat finally convinced his brother Graeme to come work at his studio with him and in 2005 Graeme began tattooing. Holding true to the motto that "blood is thicker than water", their mother Holly also took over shop administration and book keeping.
Pat prefers large scale concepts with preference for wabori style traditionl Japanese themes. He is also well versed in black and grey biomechanical skullwork, and traditional Americana tattooing.
Once again, Pat is only accepting approved consultations. Please send concept idea emails to roptattoosk@gmail.com for potential consideration. He will consider work in the following styles:
-LARGER SCALE JAPANESE THEMED,
-GREYSCALE BIOMECHANICAL AND SKULLWORK,
- TRADITIONAL AMERICANA
